Celebrating An(other) Ashes' OAM!

Saturday 17 June 2023

On behalf of everyone associated with the Monash University Blues Football Club, we would like to congratulate Stephen Giles upon his receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).

Commencing with our Club's Under 19 (Junior) side in 1976, Gilesy served the Club wonderfully both on-field - with 200 matches played for the Ashes - and off-field - serving on the Club's committee for many years.

On top of his amazing contribution to the Monash Blues, Steve returned to the club where he played his childhood football - Caramut in South West Victoria - in latter years and continues to play for them to this day! A sensational effort. The middle picture is of Stephen and his daughter, Alanah, at the unveiling of the "Stephen Giles Pavilion" at the Caramut Recreation Reserve. Gilesy is a Life Member at both Monash University Blues Football Club and the Caramut Football Netball Club.

It has been Monash University football's honour to have Stephen Giles as an integral part of our Club for so long and we heartily congratulate Steve on receipt of this much deserved award.

ADDENDUM: This excellent article on Gilesy's ongoing career with Caramut was published on the ABC website six weeks after our story above. Enjoy!
